Since its founding in 1958, St Benedict’s has enjoyed the support of a remarkably generous community. Throughout the years parents, as well as the Board, staff, alum families and friends of the school, have given their time, talents and financial support not only to sustain the quality education offered by St Benedict’s but also to ensure the continued development of the school as one of South Africa’s greatest educational institutions.

While there are countless ways to support the school through voluntary support and other gifts in kind, the following vehicles are the primary means for providing financial support to the school:

Business owners are encouraged to make use of the St Benedict's Directory to advertise their businesses. The Business Directory , which is a permanent feature on our website, offers quality exposure to businesses and individuals at a fraction of the cost of conventional advertising campaigns. It is also a means of promoting a community spirit where Bennies parents support one another and make use of the abundant skills and resources that our parent community has at its disposal.

Business Directory Rates have been reviewed as follows:

  • Standard Listing : R 500 p/a
  • Featured Listing: R 1000 p/a
  • 12 month Advert Newsletter: R 2500 p/a
  • Flash Banner advert in weekly newsletter : R5000 p/a

Please apply online to make use of this opportunity:

Advertisers who have paid more expensive rates will be credited with additional time.

Many local companies give incentives to consumers of their products and/or services by giving support to participating schools for proof of purchase. St Benedict’s is affiliated to two such programmes: The My School Programme and the Makro Card School Programme.

My School has extended their number of partners. Woolworths continues to give you rewards when swiping your My School card. Now you can also help raise funds for your school by booking your flights, accommodation, car hire and more through My School Travel. Kalahari.com has also joined the My School group of partners, as well as Power24.

If you “Believe in Bennies”,  affiliate to one or both of these programmes and selected either the College or the Preparatory School as a beneficiary:

The St Benedict’s College “Millennium” Club is an initiative that was launched in January 2011. The purpose of the Millennium Club is to assist the school in broadening the base of the College’s educational outreach programme. The programme is designed to assist needy boys identified by the College who will benefit from the use of the boarding facility.

The format of the club is as follows:

  • Club membership is unlimited and open to all.
  • Any member, whether part of the St Benedict’s family or not, may purchase an unlimited quantity of annual subscriptions.
  • The aim is to have a membership base of at least 1000 people.
  • The contribution per member is R1 000 per annum or 10 X R100 monthly debit order (February to November).
  • Each annual subscription qualifies a member for entry into six annual draws (one per half term).
  • At each draw, the following cash prizes are awarded:  1st prize - R5 000, 2nd - R2 500 and Attendance Prize - R1 000.
  • Draws take place in the “Tony Dobson Pavilion” on the last Thursday of every half term at 17h30 for 18h00. Members are notified of the date via email or sms.
  • The Pavilion is an outstanding venue to meet with fellow parents, staff, old boys and friends of the College.

If you “Believe in Bennies”,  complete the online Membership Form and support this worthwhile initiative.

Benefactors who wish to make a substantial donation (annual / termly / monthly / once-off lump sum) may request  a donation tax certificate which allows you to claim a deduction from your taxable income and which subsequently reduces taxes payable.  Donations may take the form of a general donation, a contribution to a specific activity or – at the school’s discretion – the sponsorship of a deserving and needy boy.

If you wish to make a donation, please contact the school’s Bursar, Mrs Coleen Mowatt

The St Benedict’s Scholarship Programmes makes a critical difference to deserving boys who could not otherwise fulfil their dreams of an education at St Benedict’s. The ability to offer competitive scholarships provides an investment in our boys' futures as they prepare to become leaders, not only in South Africa, but throughout the world.

Establishing a scholarship ensures that an education at St Benedict’s will be accessible to outstanding and deserving young boys for generations. It's also a very meaningful way to honour family and friends.

A Once-off Scholarship
A once-off scholarship can be established with an outright gift of R 300 000 or with staggered payments of R 60 000 over a period of five years. Such a contribution will secure both tuition and boarding for the suitable candidate. Unlike an endowed scholarship described below, an annual scholarship is not a permanent fund and is awarded only as long as contributions are received.

Endowed Scholarships
Endowed scholarships involve the donation of funds which are designed to be permanent and perpetual and can be created with gifts totalling a minimum amount of R500,000, contributed in full at the outset or with an initial commitment that is added to over time until the endowment level of R500,000 is attained.

The principal of the fund is invested to produce income, and an annual award is made to a deserving candidate. The principal remains untouched, so the endowment can last into perpetuity.

You can establish a scholarship in your own name or choose to name it for a friend, family member or a favourite staff member. St Benedict’s will draft the criteria according to your intentions of the scholarship and present it to you for your approval.

The awarding and administration of the endowed scholarship will  be at the discretion of the School.  In exchange for the donation, St Benedict’s undertakes:

  • To issue a Section 18A tax certificate upon receipt of the said donation.
  • To award the Scholarship annually to a deserving candidate.
  • To issue the successful candidate with the attached Scholarship certificate.
  • The successful candidate and his family will meet with the sponsor (and his/her representatives) in Grade 8 and in Grade 12.
  • To provide the sponsor with regular progress reports on the candidate.

Enquires relating to the establishment of a scholarship should be directed to the school’s Bursar, Mrs Coleen Mowatt
