Dear Jesus, help us to spread your fragrance everywhere we go.

Flood our souls with Your spirit and Your life.

May our lives be a radiance of Yours.

Shine through us and be so in us that every soul we come into contact with may feel Your presence in their souls.

Stay with us and then we shall begin to shine as You shine

The light , O Jesus, will be from You.  Amen.

We come to the end of a short, yet busy term and this short newsletter serves to wish you well for the upcoming holiday, to give information about the term 2 reports as well as to provide you with information for the start of next term.

TERM 2 REPORTS

The reports issued today reflect the academic progress and assessment of the entire second term, that is class work and cycle tests from 12 April as well as the recent assessment week tests. A percentage for each subject as well as a detailed break down of the skills for each subject is provided.

Please note:

·         The days absent are recorded as at 06 August.

·         The Grade 7 skills are reflected on a 7 point scale and this scale is to be found at the back of each report.

·         The Grade 4-6 skills are indicated on a 4 point scale. The scale is to be interpreted as follows:

·         GRADE 4-6 (All subjects except Afrikaans).

·

·         Each subject has an effort rating.

·         An Effort Rating is reflected per subject on the Skills Report. As the word implies, the effort rating links only to the amount of effort that the boys has put into his work. The actual mark is not necessary linked to the Effort Rating. In other words, a boy may score say 58% for a subject and achieve an effort rating of “A” if he has really worked at his very best.

·         The “values” of the effort ratings are as follows:

·

A

Working extremely well

Always gives of his best and commits himself totally to every task.

B

Working well.

Generally has a positive attitude to the task at hand.

C

Competent

He applies himself adequately to most tasks

D

Not yet competent

Does the minimum amount of work, making no special effort

E

Cause for Concern

He is not making enough effort and generally shows little effort on his work. He regularly does not hand in his work or hands it in incomplete.

·         Parents are urged to go through all sections of the report carefully and discuss it with your son. Please sign it and return the report to school on 7 September. Once it has been recorded that that the report has been signed it will be returned.

ARRANGEMENTS FOR THE BEGINNING OF TERM 3

Term 3 commences for staff and boys on Monday, 6 September. Please ensure that boys return to school in their summer uniforms.

Special note to Grade 7 parents: Monday, 13 September at 18:30. – please diarise this date for a presentation entitled “Just one teenager”. It will be presented by Sr Burgie Ireland and Dr.Heinz. The presentation deals with family guidance and sexuality education and will also explain the approach and methodology that St Benedict’s uses to present this topic to the Grade 7 boys. SPORTS TOURS IN THE HOLIDAY

Two sports tours will be talking place during the upcoming holiday. A golf tour to Natal and a tennis tour to Sun City. We wish the boys and the staff accompanying them  an enjoyable and successful trip and safe travelling to and from their respective destinations.
