Athletics has always been an integral part of a Bennies boy’s life. Good athletes make for good sportsmen.
We believe that all boys should participate in athletics as this teaches you discipline in training, perseverance in competition and gives you the belief that you can achieve your goal.
Our athletics season starts in all earnest, at the beginning of each year. Our first official meeting is the Greater Benoni District Championships. Those who qualify, then form part of the team that compete at the D17 Championships held at Kempton Park. In the past we have had a lot of success.
Our focus then shifts to the third term, where St Benedict’s competes as a school in the Gauteng Boy’s Schools Inter-High, the Independent Schools and the Inter-Catholic athletics meetings during the month of September.
We also allow our top athlete’s to assess their talent at both the Prestige Top 10 run in February at the Pilditch Stadium in Pretoria and the Naboomspruit Top 10 run in October.

Cross Country Captain: Jason Naude
The Cross Country League starts during our April school holidays and athletes who wish to compete during this time do so even though it may impact on their free time. Senior boys compete in a 6 km race while our juniors run 4 km.
Those who qualify in the top 20 positions then form part of the D17 area team to compete for provincial selection. In the past we have had a few boys gain their D17 area colours.
Cross Country is growing and our numbers increase each year. All are welcome and the top 4 finishers in each race represent the St Benedict’s A team in both the senior and junior levels.
