2012 Wayne Ferreira Challenge

The St Benedict’s Tennis team participated in the annual Wayne Ferreira Challenge, hosted by Parktown Boys last week. This is the oldest schools’ tennis tournament in the country which has been in existence for 19 years. In the group stage, Bennies beat Stellenbosch (11-10), Parktown Boys (18-0) and HTS Middelburg (17-3). In the Semi Final, Bennies lost a very competitive match to Curro Durbanville (5-4), who went on to beat Glenwood in the Final. Bennies ended up 3rd overall, by beating Stellenbosch (6-3), in the 3rd/4th playoff. This was Bennies’ best performance, to date, at this illustrious tennis tournament.

The final positions were as follows:

1st Curro Durbanville
2nd Glenwood
3rd St Benedict’s
4th Stellenbosch
5th HTS Middelburg
6th KES
7th St Stithians
8th Parktown Boys.
