Junior Preparatory |
Tennis, at St Benedict's Preparatory School, is played during all three terms. During the first and third terms, we participate in the EASTA League, where we play against the local independent and public schools.
During the second term we participate in the Independent Schools' League. We host annual an under 11 and under 13 tennis festival, on an invitation basis. These festivals are very well established, where we invite "top tennis schools" to participate.
The Keenest of the Keen festival is a St Benedict's initiative and is a festival suitable for the C/D strength tennis players. We alternate hosting this festival with St Stithians. The under 11s and under 13s are very fortunate to go on tennis every year, where we participate in the Truida Kestell tournaments, in Bethlehem, along with the very best tennis schools in South Africa.

St Benedict’s Tennis Arrangements
Firstly, welcome to tennis at Bennies for 2016. Below are the various “ins-and-outs” that everyone needs to be aware of.
What are Bennies’ requirements with regards to actual teams?
During the first and third terms:
The Prep requires six under 11 (grades 4 and 5) and six under 13 (grades 6 and 7), with four team players per team. Suitable reserves are required to be available to play, when needed. All reserves must be ready to play on match days. The Prep participates in the EAST League.
During the second term:
The Prep under 11s (one team of six players) and the Prep under 13s (three teams of six players per team) participates against the various Independent Schools.
When are matches played?
During the first and third terms, the under 11s play on Tuesdays, while the under 13s play on Thursdays. During the second term, the Prep teams play on Thursdays.
How are Bennies teams selected?
We operate strictly on a “ladder system”. Should any player/s want to challenge for a higher position, you will be allowed to challenge one, two or three positions above you on a “straight swop basis”. All challenges must be given to Nicky in writing and must be played within seven days. The Challenger is expected to supply new or good balls.
How will you know if you are playing?
All information will be placed on the tennis notice board. This is my way of communicating with everyone.

How will Nicky know that you are ready to play?
The Prep under 11 and under 13 players must tick/sign next to your name on the tennis notice board any suitable time before your match day.
What to do if you are unavailable for any match/es?
The key word here is COMMUNICATION. You are expected to notify Nicky timeously. Any late notification creates huge organisational problems. Any unreliable players will be taken off the tennis ladder and will not be selected
What to do for “away matches”.
In the Prep, we rely on Moms to assist in transporting the teams. Nicky will phone and ask for assistance. All Prep players playing away are to meet at the tennis pavilion, where the Moms are to please meet the boys and, then, take them to their away school. Please be quick, as our hosts are waiting for us.
