St Benedict’s College is proud to celebrate an exceptional weekend for our rowing community—shared with our brother-and-sister school, Holy Rosary School—at the Buffalo and Selborne Regattas in East London from 6–8 February 2026.

In a remarkable display of teamwork and competitive excellence, Holy Rosary School finished as the top girls’ school overall, winning the Girls’ School Points Trophy at the Buffalo Regatta, while St Benedict’s College secured the Boys’ School Points Trophy. This outstanding “double win” at a national regatta reflects the strength, depth and shared culture of high performance across our rowing programmes.

Adding to the significance of the weekend’s success, circumstances were not ideal for all St Benedict’s crews, with several of our rowers battling illness in the lead-up to—and during—the regattas. Despite this, the boys showed tremendous resilience and commitment, supporting one another and delivering performances of real character under pressure.

Across both regattas, our combined squads produced a series of excellent results—testament to the discipline and dedication of our rowers and the unwavering commitment of our coaching teams who continue to invest in the growth and development of every athlete.

The weekend also provided valuable racing experience and momentum as our rowing community builds toward the South African Schools Rowing Championships in early March.

We congratulate every rower who represented St Benedict’s College and Holy Rosary School with pride and sportsmanship, and we thank our coaches, parents and supporters for their constant encouragement and sacrifice.

We wish all our rowers the very best as they continue their preparation for Schools Champs—may they race with unity, courage and pride.
