Over 5,000 Spectators Expected as More Than 200 Competitors Gather for Premier Pipe Band Event

Johannesburg, South Africa – 8 July 2025

The stirring sound of bagpipes and drums will echo through the grounds of St Benedict’s College in Bedfordview on Saturday, 26 July 2025, as this Catholic school for boys proudly hosts the South African Pipe Band Championships for the very first time. Drawing over 5,000 attendees, this prestigious national event will bring together top pipe bands from across South Africa, along with distinguished Drum Majors from Northern Ireland, in a day dedicated to music, heritage, and vibrant cultural celebration.

Throughout the day, spectators will be captivated by a full programme of competitive performances, as pipe bands showcase their precision, discipline, and musical flair. The event will conclude with a powerful and moving Massed Band Display, in which all the bands perform together—an awe-inspiring tradition that marks the culmination of the day’s festivities.

The atmosphere will be further enriched by a Highland Dancing Competition, adding energy and colour to the occasion. Attendees can enjoy a diverse craft market, sample delicious offerings from local food vendors, and unwind in the beer tent. Families are encouraged to attend, with a dedicated kids’ play area ensuring fun and entertainment for the younger guests.

For those who cannot attend in person, the entire event will be live streamed on the St Benedict’s College YouTube channel, allowing supporters from near and far to experience the day’s excitement.

Gates open at 9:00 AM, and entry is R70 per person. Tickets can be purchased at the gate or online through Webtickets.
