On Sunday, 10 November 2019 the 14th annual SA Sports Awards took place. St Benedict’s came out on top being awarded the School Team of the Year for the third year winning in (2016, 2018 and 2019)


On Sunday, 10 November 2019 the 14th annual SA Sports Awards took place. St Benedict’s was nominated for the School Team of the Year. An award they had won in 2016 and 2018. They were up against Hoërskool Gimnasium and Groote Schuur Primary School. St Benedict’s came out on top being awarded the School Team of the Year for the third year winning in (2016, 2018 and 2019)

In the 2018/2019 Rowing Season, St Benedict’s College Rowing achievements included the following:

  • Winners of Gauteng Rowing Championships (November 2018)
  • 26th Consecutive Title
  • 12 Gold Medals, 2 Silver Medals
  • Winners of U14, U15, U16 and U19 Age group trophies
  • First Team – Winners of South African Schools Boatrace (December 2018)
  • St Benedict’s College awarded Rowing South Africa’s Rowing Club of the Year (January, 2019)
  • Winners of South African Schools Rowing Championships (March, 2019) 26th Consecutive Title
  • 10 Gold Medals, 3 Silver Medals
  • Winners of U14, U16 and U19 Age Group Trophies
  • South African Champions in all Five of the most prestigious events (March 2019) First Eight, Second
  • Eight, U16 Eight, U15 Oct, U14 Oct
  • Five rowers selected to represent Gauteng (March 2019)
  • First Team Coach appointed Provincial Coach (March 2019)
  • U16 Head Coach appointed SA Schools Rowing Union Coach, (June 2019)
  • U16 Cox represented South African Schools Rowing Union, (May 2019)
  • Gauteng Schools Rowing Federation Appointed Chairperson; D. Roff (June, 2019)
  • First Team Coach appointed as SA Junior National Coach (July, 2019)
  • Five St Benedict’s Rowers selected to represent South Africa at Junior World Rowing Championships in
  • Tokyo (August 2019).
  • Four St Benedict’s Rowers won a Silver Medal at Junior World Rowing Championships in Tokyo narrowly beaten by Germany in gold by 0.03 seconds. (August, 2019)
  • With over 44 South African Rowers in 31 years, representation at 4 different Olympic Games, 5 National Rowing Coaches, a 2016 and 2018 SA School Team of the Year Award and numerous medals at Junior, U23 and Africa Championships, St Benedict’s College has consistently achieved at the highest level and is undoubtedly the most ‘accoladed’ rowing school in the country.
