The St Benedict’s College school golf championship was recently held at Royal Johannesburg and Kensington golf club. There were thirty two boys that participated.

Round one was played on a very heavy and long East Course. Despite these difficult conditions, Mat Smit managed to shoot a credible four over. Other junior, less experienced players found the course too tough and some high scores were submitted.

The second round was played on a far easier West Course. Bright sun and still conditions made for more pleasant golf which allowed Mat to shoot two over. Ashton Vieira was ten over, while Carl Goosen and Jarrod Kyle were eleven over.

Mat comfortably won the competition but there are a host of very good junior golfers behind him who may very well apply pressure next year if they put in the time and effort on the range. Thanks to all the boys who participated and we look forward to seeing you all next year.
