WHY CHOOSE A BOYS' SCHOOL

ADMISSIONS - WHY CHOOSE A BOYS' SCHOOL

Your Son Needs a Boys' School

At St Benedict's we understand what makes boys tick. We keep boys active with learning, sports and the arts. We nurture their minds; shape their souls; build their bodies and hone their hearts.

Boys are unpredictable. This may not be news, but I'm starting to think it's one of the best things about them.

Developing men

We are committed to helping all our boys develop into men who are competent, confident and compassionate. Their moral and spiritual development is as important as their academic results. Our boys learn to be independent yet interconnected. We instil strong values in our boys - and our pursuit of eight maturities - spiritual, moral, personal, academic, social, economic, physical and constitutional - underpins everything we do. Their holistic development is encouraged and celebrated.

Watch them grow with pride

We delight in boys moving with consummate ease from the rugby field or rowing boat to singing in the choir to focusing on their academic studies. We support their striving for excellence as we nourish their understanding of wider social and community engagement. Our school abounds with opportunities for developing a modern masculinity that embraces the challenges offered by a modern world. Our boys thrive in a brotherhood characterised by a strong sense of camaraderie as they form strong and lifelong bonds with their friends.

It’s all about the boy

Boys’ brains and bodies are different from girls’. They develop differently in almost every way: socially, intellectually, physically and spiritually. Boys mature later than girls. They learn at a different pace. They are bursting with energy, fun, laughter, creativity, spontaneity and enjoy taking risks. Boys learn by doing. They are active learners who need to be heard and who respond eagerly to competition and incentives. They are also noisy and disorganised.

There comes a time in every rightly constructed boy’s life where he has a raging desire to go somewhere and dig for hidden treasure.

Learning tailored to suit boys

At St Benedict’s, the timetable, state-of-the-art facilities and individual lessons are all tailored to suit boys’ learning styles. Boys are strongly influenced by peers and adult role models. They respond with enthusiasm to inspirational leadership. We encourage critical thinking and responsible decision-making in a structured and disciplined environment. We ask boys to collaborate, manage conflict, make responsible decisions, time manage effectively and find solutions to life’s problems.

Celebrate the difference

We understand what makes boys tick. St Benedict’s is a culturally diverse, boy-friendly place. We celebrate their strengths, differences and abilities. We teach boys the way they learn best: by setting the highest possible expectations; by valuing each boy’s individuality and by seeing their unique potential. We enjoy boys’ wacky humour and exuberant enthusiasm. We celebrate their spirit rather than suffer it.

We grow boys into young men

One of the important advantages of a boys’ school is to create a learning environment, literally and figuratively, that accommodates what boys and young men need.
