Our pillars
At St Benedict’s, we believe in a holistic education and value academic achievement as well as full participation in sport and cultural activities.
The four cornerstones of a St Benedict’s education include:
Working together, these four cornerstones will mould your son’s mind, sculpt his soul, build his body and hone his heart. He will be encouraged to perform to his full potential in the classroom and on the sports field to make the most of his many talents.
Academics
At St Benedict’s we pride ourselves in producing young gentlemen who are well-balanced, contributing members of the community. The skills and attitudes your son will develop at our school are designed to advance his lifelong learning, adaptability, socio-emotional enrichment and success.
A Boys’ School from Grade 00 to Matric
A 21ST CENTURY EDUCATION
Our academic curricula are based on the National Curriculum and are compatible with the best international approaches to teaching and learning. Our tailor-made active academic approach blends 21st century critical-thinking skills and positive dispositions with academic rigour so that your son can continue to apply, create and achieve in the years that lie beyond school graduation.
ACTIVE CURRICULUM
The AC⁴TIVE-E⁵ is used at St Benedict’s as an academic methodology aiming to align with the principles of an authentic, 21st century education. Age-appropriate teaching methodologies, accompanied by appropriate technological integration, create a meaningful learning experience for boys. This approach to learning ensures that our boys are skilled beyond the classroom.
NICHE
PROGRAMME
We offer a niche programme which allows boys to explore other interests outside formal Academics. Niches vary from Woodwork to Masterchef and Motor Mechanics, allowing boys to step away from the classroom and develop their interests.
Religion
St Benedict’s is in every sense a Catholic School and it is the Catholic Faith that is taught throughout. Christian principles and moral values are inculcated not only through Religious Education classes and the R.E. and Liturgical programmes, but also throughout the academic curriculum in the classroom and in the extracurricular life of the school.
A Christ-centered education
Catholic education is Christ-centred, person-centred and inclusive. It is rooted in the Gospel values of respect for life, love, solidarity, truth and justice; it aims to harmonise faith and culture, build a better society and pursue the common good.
The person and message of Christ find expression at St Benedict’s in:
- Faith, service, prayer and worship
- The development of each person’s full potential in a climate of joy, freedom, respect, challenge, co-operation and celebration
- The holistic enrichment of each boy’s life
- The promotion of a spirit of charity, social justice, global awareness and concern for others leading to practical outreach and community service
- A culture of celebration of difference, where people of diverse identities are recognised, welcomed, respected and cherished
- Listening, mutual understanding, trust, reconciliation, healing and peace
- The preparation of pupils to lead fulfilling and purposeful lives which will contribute to the Common Good.

Our goal
The staff of the College contribute in practical ways, so that all may discover the meaning of sound Christian values, in thought, word and deed. Our goal is that our boys may become a generation of adults who have hope in themselves, hope in Christ and hope in the promise of the fullness of life.

A strong emphasis on music
As an integral part of any young boy’s aural and mathematical development, we place a strong emphasis on music tuition. The music programme at St Benedict’s allows our boys to learn individual instruments, which cultivates freedom and expression in an ethos of discipline and precision.

Opportunities for young thespians
Our Drama Department offers young thespians both internal and external opportunities to develop their directing and acting talents.
Sport
All boys participate in sport as part of the Integrated Day that takes place during normal school hours. The same rigorous approach to academics is adopted in sport as our coaching and sporting facilities rank among the best.

Sport in the Junior Preparatory and Preparatory Schools
At the Junior Preparatory and Preparatory school levels, sporting activities have a healthy emphasis on participation, confidence-building, and personal development. Boys participate in a wide range of sports activities, including athletics, basketball, cricket, cross-country, hockey, rowing, rugby, soccer, swimming, tennis and water polo.

Sport in College
In the College, participation in sport (or the pipe band) is compulsory for all.
