At St Benedict’s we understand what makes boys tick and keep them active with learning, sports and the arts. We nurture their minds, shape their souls, build their bodies and hone their hearts.

We were grateful for the opportunity to bless the Assumpta Catholic School Grade 7s by hosting their end-of-year outing. The day was filled with fun, joy and meaningful moments as the learners celebrated the closing of their primary school journey.
What a privilege to be part of their special day. ❤️

Today our Grade 2 and 3 swimmers enjoyed a wonderful social gala with our sister schools, @holyrosaryjhb and @assumptionconvent 🏊♂️💦
It was our first time hosting an event of this kind and the energy around the pool was fantastic. The boys showed great spirit and had plenty of fun racing alongside new friends.
A heartfelt thank you to both schools for joining us and making the afternoon so memorable.

Matric Spotlight: Matthew Smit 🎓
Since joining Bennies in Grade R, O’Leary’s own Matthew has carried a determined yet easygoing spirit through every chapter of his school journey. If he could speak to his younger self, he’d remind him to embrace the challenges — because the fun times and rewards always follow.
Looking ahead, Matthew keeps his focus clear: to stay driven, to remember his purpose, and to never lose sight of what he’s working toward. Among his fondest memories, the 2023 Boston Tour stands tall — a highlight of camaraderie, growth and pride.
Grounded, driven and steadfast. Here’s to you, Matthew

Our Bennies basketball boys recently took part in the Inanda Hoops Classic Challenge, showing great teamwork and determination throughout the tournament.
A special mention goes to our U15A and First Team for their outstanding performances and exceptional results. Well done, boys — your hard work and commitment continue to make us proud! 💪💙

John Payne wowed us at the Spring Music Concert 2025 with his incredible piano performance. Moments like these remind us how music at Bennies inspires creativity and connection in every note.🎵

Staff Spotlight: Matthew Smit 🏏🏉
Meet Matthew Smit, a proud Bennies Old Boy from the Class of 2013 and now a dedicated sports coach for our First Team Cricket and U14A Rugby. After an impressive run as a first-class cricketer for Mpumalanga, Matthew returned to his alma mater two years ago, bringing with him a wealth of experience and a deep passion for sport. He holds a CSA Level 2 Cricket Coach qualification, an IRB Level 1 Rugby Coach certificate, and is an internationally certified personal trainer.
He enjoys the energy and camaraderie within the sports department and values the world-class facilities at Bennies — from the seven-lane cricket centre to the year-round green fields that inspire both players and coaches. Outside of school, Matthew enjoys golf and staying active.
A highlight for him was seeing the First XI cricket team beat St Stithians in both a T20 and 50-over game on their home ground. Not many know that he once held the record for the most runs scored in a season for the First XI — an incredible 1 193 runs in 28 games.
We’re proud to have one of our own back on the field, guiding the next generation of Bennies sportsmen with passion and purpose.
