EXECUTIVE HEAD
BA Hons HDE (University of the Witwatersrand)

Andre Oosthuysen – Executive Head

Whatever is worth doing at all, is worth doing well.

– Andre’s favourite quote, Philip Stanhope

I suppose I would be indulging in self-flattery if I described myself as a “man of letters” but my university degree was almost entirely literature based: English III, Afrikaans and Nederlands III, African Literature II, Classical Civilization II and Film and Drama I. I am a Gen X’er with the professional characteristics of a Baby Boomer. I place a high regard on a strong work ethic and self-discipline. Professional loyalty runs deep and – like my father – I have only ever had two employers: for the first 16 years of my professional career I was an English teacher at Sir John Adamson High School in Winchester Hills.

Fr Thabo’s favourite quote, Socrates

Prior to assuming my role at St Benedict’s College, I was a curate at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Kagiso. I have also spent a bit of time organizing and facilitating Youth Programs, as well as Liturgical workshops for choirs and other Liturgical ministries for the dioceses of Johannesburg and Durban.

When I matriculated I knew I wanted a career in HR, unfortunately I couldn’t pursue this due to financial constraints. When I was 20 years old I applied for a Learnership Programme that lasted for two years and that was the beginning of my career. This programme exposed me to different departments in the company and I spent almost a year in the HR department and this confirmed my career aspirations. When the programme came to an end, I found employment at Discovery Health. I then moved to a recruitment agency for two years. …
