St Benedict’s College is pleased to announce our Matric results for 2019. While we highlight the top achievers, we also acknowledge the accomplishments of each boy and we give thanks for their achievements.
St Benedict’s College is pleased to announce our Matric results for 2019. While we highlight the top achievers, we also acknowledge the accomplishments of each boy and we give thanks for their achievements. Across the past five years our boys have been encouraged to define and set their own benchmarks; coupled with this, each boy has been motivated to take responsibility for his own personal learning in order to realise his academic goals. St Benedict’s College has a proud academic history and have produced fantastic matric results over the past 60 years and this year is no different. The final results are a combination of individual effort, the support from parents and the teamwork of our magnificent teachers. Our boys have produced some delightful results in the 2019 National Senior Certificate of the Independent Examinations Board. We, as a school, are happy with the boys’ performance and are proud of their achievements.
One hundred and twenty seven boys sat the NSC examination. A summary of the results below demonstrate the calibre of teaching and learning that takes place at St Benedict’s College:
- 100% Matric pass rate for the 45th consecutive year
- 96.85% University Entrance (Bachelor degree) passes
- 3.15% Diploma Entrance passes
- 100% of boys qualify for tertiary studies
- 12 subjects exceed IEB national subject averages
- 8 subjects attained overall averages of 70% or more
- IT Average of 83.85% with 18 distinctions from 27 boys
- Life Orientation average of 79.24% with 60 distinctions from 127 boys
- Maths Literacy average of 79.77% with 18 distinctions from 26 boys
- Maths average of 67.57% with 26 distinctions from 101 boys
- Physical Science average of 64.39% with 13 distinctions from 72 boys
- 3 boys obtained an overall Distinction Average of 90% and above
- 17 boys obtained overall Distinction Averages of 80% and above
- 35 boys achieved “B” averages (+70%)
- 56 boys achieved “C” averages (+60%)
- 127 matriculants produce 219 distinctions
- Distinction ratio of 1.72 distinctions per matriculant
Five candidates obtained a full house of distinctions, they were:
- Karl Etsebeth – 92.6% average (8 Distinctions)
- Yashin Govender – 91.6% average (9 Distinctions)
- Julio Martins – 90.1% average (9 Distinctions)
- Andy Li – 88.7% average (8 Distinctions)
- Joshua Kelly – 88.3% average (8 Distinctions)
Karl Etsebeth features on the IEB Commendable Achievers’ List (Top 5% nationally in 5 subjects and a distinction in Life Orientation)
The following boys achieved results in the top 1% nationally within a subject:
- Karl Etsebeth (Information Technology, Life Orientation, Physical Sciences)
- Julio Martins (Information Technology, Physical Sciences)
- Andy Li (Life Orientation)
- Joshua Kelly (Mathematics)
- Cade Joseph (Mathematical Literacy)
In addition:
- 2 candidates obtained 7 distinctions: Daniel Killian and Matthew Pienaar
- 3 candidates obtained 6 distinctions: Keagan O’Reilly, Byron Van Rooyen and John-Paul Kibuuka
- 3 candidates obtained 5 distinctions: Aidan Kok, Ishaan Chhatwal and Lorenzo Smargiasso
- 7 candidates obtained 4 distinctions
- 10 candidates obtained 3 distinctions and
- A further 55 boys obtained 1 or 2 distinctions
By the grace of God, our boys have put to use the talents and abilities that has been bestowed upon them. The final results are a collaborative effort and we all can be proud of our boys’ accomplishments. All 127 candidates are able to continue with tertiary studies. We thank our professional and highly trained staff for their hard work and commitment across the boys’ academic journey and we also acknowledge the loving support that we have received from our parents.
